Newly arrived government assisted refugees are temporarily housed at Welcome Place Residence (521 Bannatyne Ave), in self-contained and furnished apartments with access to on-site life skills and settlement support.
Refugee claimants may also be housed in a temporary residence if space is available. Refugee claimants should contact (telephone or e-mail) the residence manager at least one week prior to arrival to determine the availability of accommodation. If temporary accommodation is not available at Welcome Place the refugee claimants will have to be responsible for finding their own accommodation. Life Skills and Settlement Services will be available for refugee claimants if required.
Services include:
Handling evening and weekend emergency calls from clients at Welcome Place Residence
Picking up and distributing donated items to refugee claimants and to privately sponsored refugees
Assisting clients in finding affordable housing
Arranging for furniture delivery and moving clients to their permanent housing
Providing child minding support for families residing at Welcome Place Residence
