Welcome Place - Board Director Application

Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council, doing business as Welcome Place. Serving on the board of Welcome Place is a rewarding experience and an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this leadership position. You may find it helpful to read through the entire application and Board Member Responsibilities before you begin filling it out.


This application will be kept confidential and on file at our office. Applications are used by the Board’s recruitment committee to identify and evaluate potential board candidates. All new directors are elected by a majority vote of current board members.

 

 BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Serves a minimum of one (1) three-year term on the Board. Eligible to serve two (2) three-year terms if re-elected.
  2. Attend a minimum of six (6) board meetings, committee meetings as required and two organizational events (ie. Funding announcements, dignitary events, partner AGMs, etc.). Currently the Full Board of Directors meet every 2nd month from 5:15pm to 7:30pm on a Tuesday through Thursday evening selected by the majority of the Board members.   
  3. Makes a serious commitment to participate actively in Welcome Place work. 
  4. Stays informed about committee matters, is prepared for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
  5. Builds a collegial working relationship with other committee members that contributes to consensus.
  6. Participates in the committee's annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  7. Participates in the advancement of the strategic plan of the Welcome Place including fundraising and member recruitment.
  8. Financial Commitment to Welcome Place - there is an expectation that Board members will support the organization through either personal donations or actively participating in fundraising through soliciting contacts to contribute $500 annually to the organization.


Overall, Board members are expected to spend a minimum of 60 hours per year to fulfill these obligations.


A criminal record and vulnerable sector check is a requirement prior to a candidate nomination being put forward to the Board for election as a Director of Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council.
